League Enhancement Costs - Dynasty League Football Forum (2024)

Hi all,

For the past 5 years for my 12 and 24 man dynasty leagues I have added certain features that separate the experience from other leagues I am in. I love dynasty, redraft and fantasy football so I was wondering what sort of market there is for enhancing the leagues you all play in.

How much do you think the enhancements below would be worth in a traditional $100-250 league:

• Preseason podcasts on each team in the league (typically 25-45 minutes)

• In-season- Weekly Review Podcasts (typically 25-30 minutes) where we go over results, trades, where teams can improve, injuries, whatever!

• Weekly Rankings

I have it figured in a traditional 12 man league at $5 a week ($85 per person for the season) would be worth it to diehards. I know the masses wouldn't necessarily do this but for the true sickos that frequent these forums like me what are your thoughts?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You're putting more work on yourself without anyone asking for it and then charging for your service. Sounds more like an added hobby by you, but it shouldn't be forced to be paid by your league mates.

I really never understood commissioners taking money from the league as their "dues".

I would not pay anything for it as a manager.

As a commissioner, I did something similar for many years for the leagues I ran. The commissioner of the first league I was ever in (in the '90) is a sports writer, and it was natural for him to want to do post-draft reports, weekly recaps, and postseason chances write-ups. When I started running my own leagues, I did it too.

Most of the managers in my leagues loved it. Over the years, I've cut way back. I still do a write up, but it's more like four or five times a year instead of every week.

I do not and would not charge to do it. I can't imagine any manager being willing to pay for this as an extra.

I “could” see leaguemates kicking in an extra $25 or so.

But I would do it for free for the first season to give them a taste of the value that you’re looking to put in. Let them know this is a 1 year trial period so they can experience the wonders and joy of your enhancements.

At the end of the season let them vote to see if they want to continue it for the next season at a cost for your time. If they don’t, you know have a portfolio and working example to pitch leaguemates for a newly formed league for the next season. You can start by recruiting owners who vote yes that they like it, and then fill the new league with owners who buy in after listening to your podcasts from the “last season”.

To a much lesser extent, I do the same thing with league graphics designed by Mark Orns (MarkInMI). I pass on the graphics costs to the leaguemates but I show them my league portfolio and they’re like “heck yeah this is awesome”

I commish and can be a real pain in the bleep. While I haven't ever been compensated, I honestly think there is nothing wrong with the commish getting their fees paid. But then again none of my leagues are more than $75 a year, most are $50. So there is a big difference between paying the commish $50 and say $500.

Echoing the above… adding these things (which are fun, but are more of a hobby thing for you) and FORCING league/mates to pay is a non-starter for me.

If this was a startup and you were advertising this from the start that would be a different story… and you’d likely struggle to get people to join the league… but if someone did this to me mid-league I’d be dropping out of the league.

I used to do many types of write ups for my home league, including Weekly Highlights, Rookie Draft Review, 3+ year Trade Reviews, and still do a Legacy Ranking each offseason. It was all free. People enjoyed it, but I don’t think anyone would actually pay for it.

You may be able to find a niche willing to pay for it if money isn’t a thing and they just like the added content, but will be tough to get off the ground if they don’t know what they are purchasing (ie. Is there a trial league they can check out from the year prior). $85/team in a 12 team league is $1K. I think you’re better off cutting down the work and cost to maybe $20 per team and if you can get buy in some way in that range.

I like this idea. Do it for free to show them the experience. Also all owners have their own path for FF podcasts, info, forums already. You would need to convince them to abandon those basically and then replace with yours. Sometimes too many opinions can make things harder and more cloudy for an owner.
