Frozen Steak In Instant Pot

This frozen steak recipe was originally shared with you on what was my grandad’s birthday.

My Grandad was a fisherman and was very frugal and good at making things last, making recipes stretch and making great delicious food from cheap ingredients.

He was the first to introduce me to black pudding to liver and onions and cheap veggie soups from leftovers, plus he was great at making veggie stock too.

Now as we all worry about the cost of living, it is great when you can go back to old fashioned basics and make great food with cheaper cuts of meat.

Whilst I was raised by parents that love sirloin steak or fillet steak (steak mignon), I am always interested in ways that I can save money but still enjoy great steak.

And that is where the idea for instant pot frozen steak came from. The idea that you could use a much cheaper cut of meat i.e. chuck/braising rather than sirloin and because the pressure cooker tenderises everything have steak that tastes as good as sirloin, but fits in with the cost of living.

We are also using super cheap braising steak from Asda/Walmart that is part of their cheap just essentials range to see how this turns out.

Steak – You can use any steak though we went with braising steak which is the same as chuck. Other great options include sirloin steak, flank steak etc. Though avoid 1-minute steaks as they will cook too fast.

Onions – I always start with some onion that I sauté in the instant pot with some extra virgin olive oil.

Wine & Stock. Then after the onion a deglaze with some red wine and some beef stock make such a difference.

Sauce – We also used cream cheese (Philadelphia) and some mustard to create a delicious creamy steak sauce.

Seasoning – For seasoning our pressure cooker frozen steak we used salt, pepper, and mixed herbs.
