New York Yankees - Overview (2024)

  • TrentGrisham

    NYY Center Fielder #12

Trent Grisham went 2-for-3 with a run scored in a loss to the Braves on Sunday.

Grisham got the start in center field and came away with two singles on the day. He’s still hitting just .136/.275/.318 on the season; however, with Giancarlo Stanton on the IL, Grisham figures to get the majority of the starts against right-handed pitching with Aaron Judge sliding into the DH spot. Managers in deeper formats could roster Grisham in the short-term given his left-handed power in Yankee Stadium and the strong lineup around him.

  • OswaldPeraza

    NYY Shortstop #91

Yankees optioned INF Oswald Peraza to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The 24-year-old infielder was brought up to provide depth on the Yankees’ bench on Sunday, but he’ll head right back to Triple-A with J.D. Davis expected to join the team on Monday. Peraza did not appear in Sunday’s game and has not gotten into a game with the Yankees so far this season.

  • Ben Rice went 2-for-3 on Sunday against the Braves.

Rice has been totally fine in his first week of play with a .294 average and the same number of walks as strikeouts. He’s yet to find his first extra-base hit yet but does not seem over-matched by major league pitching.

  • GiancarloStanton

    NYY Right Fielder #27

Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday’s game that Giancarlo Stanton was diagnosed with a mild left hamstring strain.

The 34-year-old slugger received a PRP injection on Sunday as well and told reporters that he expects to spend around four weeks on the injured list. That leaves a gaping hole in the middle of the lineup that the Yankees will need to fill for the next month or so. In 69 games on the season, Stanton has hit a respectable .246/.302/.492 with 18 homers and 45 RBI.

  • NestorCortes

    NYY Starting Pitcher #65

Nestor Cortes allowed three earned runs across seven innings Sunday against the Braves. He struck out seven and walked none as a tough-luck loser.

Cortes was great Sunday, Max Fried was just better. Jarred Kelenic burned him for a short-porch home run early and then the bottom of the Braves’ lineup rallied in the fifth inning. Otherwise, Cortes was dotting his cutter on the edges all afternoon and kept the Braves’ big bats at bay. He’s had a fantastic season thus far with a 3.40 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 100 2/3 innings.

  • J.D.Davis

    NYY Third Baseman #5

Yankees acquired INF J.D. Davis from the Athletics for INF Jordan Groshans and cash considerations.

Davis provides New York with some additional experienced infield depth moving forward after being designated for assignment earlier this week by Oakland. The 31-year-old corner infielder holds a pedestrian .670 OPS with four homers and five RBI in 135 plate appearances in 39 games this season. He figures to get some time at third base or designated hitter against left-handed pitching while Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) is on the shelf.

  • NickBurdi

    NYY Relief Pitcher #57

Yankees transferred RHP Nick Burdi to the 60-day injured list.

The procedural move opens up a spot on New York’s 40-man roster for newly-acquired infielder J.D. Davis. The 31-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May due to right hip inflammation.

  • AaronJudge

    NYY Right Fielder #99

Aaron Judge is at designated hitter for Sunday’s series finale against the Braves.

Judge will likely spend additional time at designated hitter moving forward in the wake of Giancarlo Stanton’s unfortunate hamstring injury. The 32-year-old generational talent slugged his major league-leading 28th home run of the season during Saturday night’s win at Yankee Stadium and is in the midst of one of the best extended stretches of his career. It can only be a positive thing for his immediate health for him to get a break from playing center field everyday, at least for a few weeks leading into next month’s All-Star break.

  • OswaldPeraza

    NYY Shortstop #91

Yankees recalled INF Oswald Peraza from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Peraza will be making his season debut for New York when he gets into a game after missing the first couple months of the year due to a shoulder strain that he suffered back in spring training. It’s easy to recall his struggles at the highest level over the last few years as he’s failed to carve out a permanent role for the Yankees, but he’s still just 24 years old. It’s too early to give up completely. Still, fantasy managers can take a wait-and-see approach for now to see if he finally puts it together.

  • GiancarloStanton

    NYY Right Fielder #27

Yankees placed OF Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Stanton is slated to undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity and how much time he’ll likely wind up sidelined. Fantasy managers should anticipate him missing at least a few weeks, even if it’s a low-grade strain. The 34-year-old slugger, who has 18 homers in 69 games this season, suffered the injury during Saturday’s contest against the Braves. The timing is extremely unfortunate for the Yankees, and fantasy managers, as there isn’t a clear replacement for him at the moment with top prospect Jasson Domínguez on the shelf at Triple-A due to an oblique strain.
