Egg Nog French Toast Recipe (1)

I love going to the grocery store and seeing eggnog on the shelves. This French toast would make the perfect breakfast this holiday season.

It is easy to make and literally tastes like a Christmas celebration in your mouth. You’ll love it.

Whether you like egg nog or not, you are going to love this french toast. It has such a creamy taste, and an amazing texture.

You won’t believe how easy it is to make. It comes together in a matter of minutes, and it make the best holiday breakfast. I’m already planning on waking up to this Christmas morning, and I can’t wait.

Tips for making eggnog French toast

-Thick cut bread, or Texas toast works best when making French toast. Although regular bread slices work, they tend to get a little more soggy when it comes to making French toast.

-If you really don’t love eggnog, or want to take down the flavor, you could substitute one of the cups of eggnog, for a cup of milk or cream.

-You could also just do plain milk or cream if you really don’t want egg nog French toast. This recipe also works for regular French toast, but the hint of egg nog is delicious.

-When mixing the egg mixture together, we recommend using a shallow dish, that is wide, because it allows you to fit the entire slice of bread in it.

Whereas if you used a bowl, it would be more difficult to submerge the slice of bread.

What toppings should I put on my French toast?

Toppings are really what make French toast delicious. I am a toppings person.

The first essential to put on your French toast would obviously be syrup. I like maple syrup, but I love our Buttermilk Syrup ten times more.

If you have never made your own syrup, you have to try this recipe. It so so easy, and fail proof.

I also love adding fruit to my French toast. My favorites are strawberries and bananas, but I also love peaches, raspberries, blueberries, candied apples, and black berries.

I also love adding crushed pecans or walnuts, especially if they are candied.

Last but most definitely not least, I love adding a dollop of whipped cream.

Combine all the things, and you truly have the world’s best breakfast.

FAQs

What is eggnog French toast? ›

Classic French toast is fairly simple to make, and eggnog French toast is just as easy. You simply swap out the milk for the eggnog. This also appeals to my sense of frugality, as I usually have a carton of eggnog in the fridge from the holidays that I can't drink fast enough.

What is one common mistake when preparing French toast? ›

If the pan isn't hot enough when you put your first slice in, the custard spreads out, forming a "foot" on the bottom of the French toast. When the pan is hot enough, the batter won't have time to seep; the custard will start cooking as soon as it hits the pan. Give the pan a light coating of neutral oil and butter.

Can I use eggnog instead of milk? ›

In fact, eggnog can be substituted into most recipes that call for a good portion of milk – see what options you like best! Add it to beverages: Surely, if you're an eggnog fan, you've tried Starbucks' featured holiday latte.

What is the French name for eggnog? ›

Eggnog in french is “Lait de poule”. It literally means “chicken milk”.

Is it better to use milk or heavy cream for French toast? ›

We use whole milk because the higher fat content makes the French toast nice and creamy, but you can substitute heavy cream, almond milk, or even coconut milk. The flavors will change a little, but the end result will still be delicious!

What happens if you soak French toast too long? ›

Leaving the bread in the egg mixture for too long is another route to soggy French toast. You want the bread to soak up the egg mixture, but you don't want it to become sodden before you cook it.

Should you toast your bread before making French toast? ›

Use stale bread or toast the bread until it's golden-brown. It needs to be sturdy to hold up to the egg mixture. If the bread is fresh from the bag or you toast it too lightly, the finished dish will be soggy. Soak the toasted or untoasted bread for about 10 seconds per side to achieve the optimal texture.

What tastes best in eggnog? ›

Choose The Right Spirit

While brandy is the most traditional alcohol to pair with eggnog, according to traditional recipes, you can also use a mixture of dark rum and Cognac. If you like your eggnog with more of a kick you can also add bourbon, but we recommend sticking to rum and Cognac to preserve the 'nog's flavors.

What liquid goes with eggnog? ›

However, there are a few things to consider when making your purchase at the liquor store.
  • Brandy: Makes the Most Traditional Eggnog.
  • Rum: Blends Seamlessly, Keeping the Eggnog Flavor Intact.
  • Bourbon: Eggnog With a Kick.

How much alcohol is in eggnog? ›

Alcohol: If you want to add alcohol to your eggnog, start with ¼ cup brandy, bourbon, rum or whisky added at the same time as the vanilla, or after cooling the eggnog. Add more to taste, if desired.

What exactly is in eggnog? ›

Eggnog is traditionally made with eggs, egg yolk, sugar, milk, heavy cream and vanilla extract. It's often spiked with brandy, rum or other liquor, and topped with freshly grated nutmeg and/or cinnamon sticks.

What did eggnog taste like? ›

Eggnog is very sweet and creamy, somewhat like a custard. Some have a little bit of sweet spice thanks to the cinnamon added to eggnog. You can also add vanilla to your drink for a special touch in your drink.

Is eggnog the same as custard? ›

The most basic difference is that boiled custard is heated while true eggnog isn't. Both are made with milk, half and half, or cream, eggs, sugar, and usually a little vanilla. However, eggnog is very fluid and creamy because it hasn't been heated. Custard becomes thicker as it is heated, as the eggs cook.

Is eggnog the same as egg custard? ›

However, the main difference between the two is that boiled holiday custard offers hints of vanilla, while eggnog delivers a warming and spicy flavor. Both are classic sweet drinks, but boiled custard is noticeably more sweet and mild.
